Bryce Thompson is a graduate of East Pennsboro High School and the Horticulture and Landscaping Program at CPAVTS.Alumni Spotlight- Oct 2018

Bryce stopped in the Cumberland Perry recently to drop off some stone to his previous Instructor, Mrs. Perry in the Horticulture & Landscaping Program. Fortunately we managed to snag him for an Alumni Spotlight during his brief delivery and visit.

Here is what he has been up to since leaving CPAVTS:

Describe the company or industry in which you currently work.

“I am currently employed with Knisely Landscaping Inc. I started working with them through the Cooperative Education Program at CPAVTS during my senior year.”

What is your job title and what do you do?

“I am a landscaper laborer and sales consultant.”

What additional education and training did you receive after leaving CPAVTS and did you feel CPAVTS prepared you for this?

“I received a degree from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Landscaping with an emphasis on Horticulture Landscape. I definitely felt that CPAVTS prepared me for this, I had an extensive understanding of what I was being taught.”

How was Cumberland Perry different than your regular high school?

“It wasn’t a typical classroom with book lessons, you got to get out and get your hands dirty. You learn the trade through doing the work. You can’t just read about it in a book and know how to do it, you literally have to plant things and watch them grow.”

How has your industry changed since you time at Cumberland Perry?

“Technology has been a big change in the sense of estimating jobs as well as high definition design software.”

What is your favorite memory of CPAVTS?

“I went on two different trips to Las Vegas, Nevada with NAHB (National Association of Home Builders). I also made life-long friendships during my time at CPAVTS with both classmates and instructors once I graduated.”
