New Instructor Spotlight – Erin Border, Nursing Assistant Instructor

Mrs. Erin Border was welcomed to Cumberland Perry AVTS in August 2019.  Mrs. Border has an associate’s degree in Registered Nursing and received her BSN in 2014 from Chamberlain College of Nursing.  She provides over 18 years of experience in the Nursing field and this is what she shared regarding her new teaching position:

What did you do before coming to work at Cumberland Perry AVTS?

I worked for a company that had group homes for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and chronic medical conditions.  I also worked at MedExpress Urgent care.

What made you decide you wanted to teach?

I wanted to be a teacher when I graduated High School but I then became very passionate about health care and nursing.  I find that working at CPAVTS gives me the best of both worlds.

How has your first month been?

I have had a great first month.  I find that I have students who are engaged and really want to succeed.  They put a lot of effort into this program and it makes me want to be a good teacher for them.

What part of the curriculum are you looking most forward to teaching?

I like anatomy so I like the body system units.  I also like to set a good foundation with the basic skills like vital signs.

What’s the most important thing you hope to impart on your students?

I want my students to feel confident in themselves and the skills they learn here.  I hope that they leave this program as good caregivers and good employees.
